Swimming

In the summer you can swim in the Reitdiep. The Reitdiep is a clean river that flows calmly to lake Lauwersmeer. It is a completely different experience to a ‘subtropical swimming paradise’. You can visit the unusual open-air pool of Electra or the beaches of the Lauwersmeer area. The fabulous island of Schiermonnikoog with the most beautiful beaches of Europe is not far away either.

Fishing

The size of zander in the Reitdiep is of proverbial proportions, but other fresh-water species are also well represented. You can set your rods from your own jetty or use a boat to explore the Reitdiep.

Boating

You can bring your own boat without additional costs and moor it at your own jetty. You can sail from your own jetty to lake Lauwersmeer or into the centre of Groningen. Exploring the area in a canoe is a lot of fun too.

Bicycles

There is nowhere else in the Netherlands where cycling is as wonderful as it is here. There are plenty of cycle paths and they lead you to beautiful, quiet villages, nature areas and spectacular, authentic manor houses.

Villages and the City

You can do your shopping in Winsum (6 km) or nearer to home in Ezinge or Oldehove (small supermarket). The city of Groningen is just 20 km from your green-roof home. No need to talk here about what the city of Groningen has on offer.

Lake Lauwersmeer

Lake Lauwersmeer is 20 km away; it is one of the most beautiful nature areas in the Netherlands. Peace and pace, but plenty of leisure options too. Sailing, swimming, walking and fishing and eating fish on the wadden coast at the end of a day.
